S1, E7: Realization Time

This week we discuss season 1, episode 7, “Realization Time,” which originally aired on May 17, 1990 on ABC. As always, we will be revealing plot details, so we assume that listeners will have watched Twin Peaks season 1 through episode 7. It’s an action-packed episode, with plenty of themes for our crew to explore. Colin notes the prominence of the color blue, dissects the increasing juxtapositions of sweetness and horror (think blood on the doughnuts), and how male power terrorizes. Damon explores Agent Cooper’s complex moral code. For our character spotlight, Jonathan takes a closer look at Sherilyn Fenn’s portrayal of Audrey Horne. Jennifer, the AV nerd of the group, scrutinizes the variety of ways that recording, playback and feedback are expressed in this week’s episode. For “The Twist,” we chat about costuming and disguises, from bad wigs to cartoon homages to ball caps.
